Heard a pair of 9815's recently, with some serious solid state behind them, and a Dolby Lake X-over. Sounded very nice in a "modern sense" room was also highly treated. They seemed to go lower then my M 19's but not as clean sounding..... For 2 channel "critical listening" which would you choose and why? I read that an esteemed member of our community, liked the sound of these with the right eq.

Well I answered my own ?'s, did some listening for a few hours with my 19's, and the 416's are so much faster tracking bass, and the M19's reveal a lot of information on recordings that the 9815's seem not to. Maybe that's why they are called studio monitors. The one thing about the 9815's is they are less picky about recordings and are very nice budget Altecs... If you have a chance with a lot of power, they are worth the a listen. A little rolled off in this instance, may have been the setup? They do sound very different than the Altecs I have, but are enjoyable!!!
Yeah, 9815s are designed to be EQ'd as required in a MI app, so with prosound typically being -24 dB/42 Hz till recently, no need to go low or be subtle at low power, but hook them to some digital EQ and at least 1 kW of squeaky clean power and it's 'Katie, bar the door'!
